How to clean a mattress

Dirty mattress? Unpleasant stains? Well we have put together this guide on how to clean a mattress and remove any fresh or dried in stains.

Why would you want to clean your mattress?

Your mattress is the perfect habitat for bacteria and viruses to breed. Because of how warm your mattress gets your bed can become a hazard to your health. The build up of bad bacteria can cause infections, fever and other symptoms.

Your mattress contains:

Mould and Fungi - Some of these spores can make you very ill, very quickly. These spores can cause allergic reactions and can even be fatal.

Flakes of Dry Skin - As humans we shed around 1.5 grams of skin every day, a large amount of this happens whilst we sleep, so a large portion of this skin ends up in our mattress, which then brings bad bacteria into your mattress causing a rancid odour.

Dust Mites - Dust mites can be found all over the home, but they especially love living in your mattress, the warm conditions make it the perfect breeding ground and because they eat and live in your mattress fibres you are left with all of the excrement. For people who suffer with asthma this could prove to be fatal. Dust mites can also be found in pillows, duvets, carpets and rugs so it would be a great idea to include these areas when treating your home.

We are here to help you rid your mattress of as much of nastiness as possible with a few tips and tricks from our cleaning experts.

There are many different ways to clean a mattress, so below we have listed some different cleaning methods for different mattress related problems.
